Section 01
The 5-second rule
Your profile is your storefront. Before someone reads a single word of your content, they have already made a judgment. The question is whether that judgment works for you or against you.

The test: show your profile to a stranger
If they cannot tell within 5 seconds what you do, who you help, and why they should follow you โ you have work to do. That is the only test that matters.
Section 02
Profile picture
Your profile picture is a 110px circle. You have exactly that much space to signal trust, authority, and approachability. This is not the place for a logo, a landscape, or a group photo.
Close-up face shot
Your face should fill 70% of the frame. Not a full-body shot, not a group photo.
Simple background
Solid wall, blurred background, or professional studio. Never a busy scene.
Looks like your audience
Dress the way your ideal client would expect an expert to dress. First impressions are visual.
High resolution
Blurry or pixelated photos signal low effort. Use a recent photo taken in good lighting.
Quick check
Zoom out until your profile picture is thumbnail size. Can you still clearly see your face? If not, it will not work on mobile where most people first find you.

Section 03
Name field + username
The name field is the most underused real estate on Instagram. It is the only part of your profile that is indexed for Instagram search. Your username is not searchable in the same way. Your bio is not searchable at all.
If someone types your niche into Instagram search and your name field does not contain that keyword, you will not show up. It is that simple.
The format
Your Name | Your Keyword
Keep it under 30 characters or it gets cut off on mobile. The keyword should match what your ideal client would actually type into search.

The bio
150 characters. Four lines. Every word earns its place or it is gone. Your bio needs to answer the four questions a new visitor is silently asking: who are you, why should I care, what do I get, and what do I do next?

Link in bio
One link. Not a Linktree with eight options. When you give someone eight things to click, they click nothing. Pick the single most important destination and send everyone there.

Story highlights
Highlights are the first thing a profile visitor sees before they scroll to your posts. Most people leave theirs as a random dump of old stories. That is a missed opportunity.
Branded covers
Use the same color palette across all highlight covers. It makes your profile look intentional, not chaotic.
First highlight = best proof
Put your results, testimonials, or top offer first. That is what converts a profile visitor into a follower.
Max 6 highlights
More than 6 starts to look cluttered. Quality over quantity. Outdated ones should be deleted.
Clear short titles
One or two words max. Results. Process. Clients. FAQs. Not random emojis.
